SaBRe Center 2026 Annual Meeting

The SaBRe Center Annual Meeting 2026 at Rutgers University Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine brought together an incredible community of 55+ faculty, scientists, postdocs, researchers, students, and partners from industry and national labs.
Over two energizing days, the meeting featured outstanding talks and discussions from our PIs, students, collaborators, and guests, including Debashish Bhattacharya, Roman Vazquez, Loretta Roberson, Shishir P S Chundawat, Sagar Khare, Bradley Wahlen, Lieve Laurens, Tanya Tschirhart, Yalin Li, Ah-Hyung (Alissa) Park, Jose L. Avalos, Aaron Moment, Liz Diaz-Vazquez, Hauke Kite-Powell, and Allen McGonagill.
A huge thank you to all of our visiting speakers, guests, and partners for making the discussions so rich and forward-looking.
One of the true highlights of the meeting was the energy and creativity of our trainees—from poster sessions to rapid-fire lightning talks, their contributions showcased the depth of innovation across the SaBRe ecosystem. We are incredibly grateful for their enthusiasm, engagement, and the collaborative spirit they brought to every session. Special shout out to Austin Seamann for his help organizing this event at Rutgers IQB and thanks to all SaBRe trainees for their fantastic contributions!
From scientific exchange and technical deep-dives to networking over coffee and dinner (and the occasional board games led by our trainees after a busy session of science discussions 😊), the meeting was truly engaging, insightful, and genuinely fun…a testament to the strength of this growing community and shared mission.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Schmidt Sciences for their continued support of the SaBRe Center, Virtual Institute for Feedstocks of the Future (VIFF), and our collective efforts to make Sargassum seaweed biorefining a scalable reality.
Looking forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead!
